RIVNUT RNFFAFor the last 40 years we have been supplying specialist rivnuts to the manufacturing industry. With extensive experience and knowledge, our team of professionals has the ability to provide you with the exact tooling and fastener you need for your project. We pride ourselves on supplying products that are as good, if not better than our global competitors. Check out our huge range of rivnuts by following the link below.
Dafra stocks aluminium rivnuts in a range of thread sizes and flange profiles, with expert advice available to help you select the right threaded insert for your application.
What Are Aluminium Rivnuts?
Aluminium rivnuts — also known as aluminium rivet nuts, rivnuts, or threaded inserts — are blind fasteners that create a permanent female thread in thin-walled or hollow materials from one side only.
The installation process is simple: the rivnut is inserted into a pre-drilled hole, and a rivnut installation tool pulls the mandrel to expand the body against the reverse of the material, locking it permanently in place. The result is a strong, reusable internal thread — ideal for applications where welding or conventional tapping is not practical.
Aluminium rivnuts are particularly well-suited to applications where a smaller hole size is needed or where working close to the edge of the parent material is required.
Aluminium Rivnut Sizes and Specifications
Dafra's aluminium rivnuts are available in the following thread sizes:
-
M4, M5, M6, M8 and M10 metric thread sizes
Profile options include large flange and flush flange styles, each suited to different clamping and aesthetic requirements. Grip ranges vary by size — contact our team to confirm the correct specification for your material thickness.
Why Choose Aluminium Rivnuts?
Aluminium rivet nuts offer a distinct set of advantages for lightweight and corrosion-sensitive applications:
-
Lightweight — Significantly lighter than steel or stainless steel rivnuts, making them ideal for weight-critical assemblies in aerospace and automotive applications
-
Corrosion resistance — Aluminium's natural oxide layer provides good resistance to corrosion in moderate environments
-
Smaller hole diameter — Aluminium rivnuts typically require a smaller installation hole than equivalent steel alternatives, preserving material integrity near edges
-
Galvanic compatibility — Aluminium rivnuts are the preferred choice when fastening into aluminium sheet to minimise galvanic corrosion risk
Aluminium Rivnut Applications
Aluminium threaded inserts are used across a broad range of industries where lightweight, permanent threading is required:
-
Automotive — Dashboard panels, trim components, and lightweight chassis fabrication
-
Aerospace and aviation — Non-structural interior fittings and aluminium panel assemblies
-
General fabrication — Aluminium enclosures, brackets, and equipment housings
-
Electrical and HVAC — Mounting points in thin aluminium enclosures and ductwork where tapping is not feasible
